I met Smgt. Holman at my first duty station at Beale AFB, CA in 1974. He was my first supervisor/mentor. Boy, I was a hot mess of a young girl not understanding military ways. He had his hands full that's for sure. That being said, he was a wonderful teacher. He made working in sometimes miserable conditions a lot less stressful with his calm presence and funny sense of humor.
He always gave sage advice although I didn't always listen. The best advice he ever gave me was this: Just because you're a cook and not a rocket scientist does not mean you are any less than anyone else. And as a cook, we hold a lot more power because everybody needs to eat. Use that power wisely.
He was a good man. My condolences to his family. Rest in peace Coulee Holman. I'm forever grateful for all you did to help me through those difficult first couple of years in the Air Force.
God bless you and keep you,
Kelly M. Mahoney
