The journey began for Theresa Lynn (Jones) Carter on Thursday, April 9, 1959 in the small town of Hoisington, Kansas, the second child from the union of Vernon Leroy Jones and Edna Marie Jones. She is preceded in death by her farther, Vernon Leroy, Sr.; father in-law, Cecil “Buddy” Carter; grandson, Damari Caddell; paternal grandparents, Orland Jones and Lottie B. Johnson; maternal grandparents, Winfred Robinson and Beulah Robinson; great grandmother, Margaret “Mama Meg”Darci Watson.
Theresa was baptized and gave her life to the Lord at a young age and preached to everyone she saw. She gave her first testimony at 5 years old. She loved to praise God and kept The Word of God in her heart. She was such a beautiful human being and would light up any room she entered. She graduated from Great Bend High School in 1977 and went on to gain a degree from Barton County Community College. She worked for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment for 16 years and was the minister of TLC Ministries, a prison ministry.
She married her soulmate, Ernest Lee Carter, Sr. on November 14, 1981. The significance of the sun is apparent by the presence of darkness when it has gone. Anyone that knew Theresa experienced what it was like to laugh and live next to the sun. She loved her grandkids & taking them to see her Aunt Reada Ann in Lawrence, Kansas. She also loved talking to her Aunt Irene from Los Angeles on the phone or skype.
Theresa leaves to cherish her memory: her mother, Edna Jones of Great Bend, KS; her loving husband, Ernest L. Carter, Sr.; her children, Dartenell Garnes of Oklahoma, Ernice Carter of Florida, Tanesha Carter, and Ernest “EC” Carter, Jr. of the home; her sisters, Yvonne “Von” Jones and Charlotte Perry (Chris) of Topeka; her brothers, Scott Jones of Valley Center, Vernon
Leroy Jones, Jr. of Great Bend, 13 grandchildren; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her dearly.
