Ronald L. Wakes, Sr. was born to Luelling "Nick" and Audrey Wakes on April 21, 1956 in Topeka, Kansas. Ronnie attended Highland Park High School where he was active in Gymnastics and Track and graduated in 1974. Shortly after graduating High School, he married Vicki D. (White) Wakes and they later divorced in 1985. He began working at the Docking State Office Building in 1984 where he served as a Building and Grounds Supervisor until he retired in 2007.
In his spare time he enjoyed playing music and was a drummer in several bands including, Torch and Eklectic Driven. He was an artist that loved to draw and was a "Handyman" that could fix anything you put in front of him. He also had a passion for working on Mo-PAR vehicles and took tremendous pride in maintaining, restoring and modifying his very first car, a 1969 Dodge Super Bee which he proudly dubbed, "Miss Beasley."
Most importantly, Ronnie was a hardworking, Independent man and was a very devoted father and grandfather who loved his children and grandchildren very much and would do anything for them.
He was preceded in death by his Mother, Audrey M. Wakes; Ex-Wife, Vicki D. Wakes; and Grandparents, Luelling B. and Argenta Wakes. He is survived by his Father, Luelling J. Wakes; Brothers, Steven D. Wakes (Michelle) and Kelvin Holford, Sr. (Tammy); Daughter, Dytra G. Hales (Michael); Son, Ronald L. Wakes, Jr.; Grandchildren; Victoryea and Da'Mykel Hales; His Significant Other, Sharon Shaffer . . . and a host of Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends, who all Loved and will miss Him Dearly.
