Obituary for Linda Kay Long (Duffy)

Linda Kay Long (Duffy)
Linda Kay (Duffy) Long, 66 of Meriden, KS passed away Sunday, April 3, 2016 at home with
her loving husband by her side. She was born in Circleville, KS to parents Harry and Helen
Duffy on November 3, 1949. Linda graduated from Circleville High School in 1967 where she
was very active in basketball, softball, band, and cheerleading. She later furthered her
education at Washburn University where she studied business.
On April 28, 1969, Linda was united in marriage to Keith Long after dating for only four short
months. They met at Katz Department Store in Topeka, KS where Linda worked with Keith’s
mother, Lola Mae Long. They started their family a few years later with the birth of their first
daughter, Buffy (Long) Croucher in 1971 and followed with their second daughter Becky (Long)
Croucher in 1975.
Linda served 10 years of employment at Goodyear Rubber Company in the office before the
Topeka, KS department was closed. She then decided, with the support of her husband, to
open her own business, Railway Sandwich Shop in 1983. She enjoyed the challenges and
excitement the fast paced environment brought, running her own business before closing in
1994. Linda treasured all the relationships that were created with each person she employed at
Railway Sandwich Shop (or just know simply as the “Shop”) as well as her customers.
Linda was a member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church in Topeka, KS, where
she attended the early morning services most Sundays until her mobility started to suffer due to
her diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis.
Linda Long was known for her independent, strong willed, compassionate, comedic attitude
and love of life. She had many hobbies which included softball, bowling, ballroom dancing,
gardening, camping and reading books. She loved traveling with her husband to watch drag
racing and stopping at casinos along the way. Linda was never too busy though to stop and
lend an ear or give advice to her two daughter's, friends or employees.
Linda Long was preceded in death by her father, Harry Duffy and mother Helen Duffy.
She is survived by her loving husband, Keith Long and two daughters, Buffy Croucher (Kenneth
) and Becky Croucher (Randy) both from Topeka, KS; four Grandchildren, Paige, Samatha,Taylor and Katie Croucher.
