Obituary for Dorothy Mae Lewis (Burnett)

Dorothy M. Burnett-Lewis was born on November 10, 1925 in Slaton, Texas the daughter of Will A. Burnett and Mabel Beatrice Ethel Lee McNealy Burnett. She attended Booker T. Washington School in Plainview, Texas.

She accepted Christ at the age of 10 and united with St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. She was faithful to her church all of her life. She relocated to Topeka, Kansas, March 20, 1960. She never stayed out of church over a month and she always said, “Whatever I do I give God the glory, for it is God that worked in me and through me.” On April 20, 1960 she united with Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. While at Ebenezer she was an active servant of God serving as a teacher, President of the Mission, Financial Secretary, choir director and pianist. She was a worker for the Lord wherever she was needed.

Dorothy married Thomas Bullocks on April 20, 1938 in Plainview, Texas. From this union three sons were born. They later divorced. She then married George Harris on January 6, 1951. George passed away on July 4, 1964. She later married Herbert Lewis, December 1, 1965, he passed away on July 2, 1999.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, James E. Bullocks; four sisters, Mary Katherine Brown, Clare Lee Waffer, Olgafay Robinson and Velma L. Helm.

She is survived by her sons, Pastor Clarence L. Bullocks (Charlene) and Jimmy Lee Bullocks all of Topeka, Kansas; brother, Will A. Burnett of Topeka, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Gradean Bullocks of Topeka, Kansas; 11 grandchildren;30 great-grandchildren,6 great great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
