I was Stan's VA RN for over 9 1/2 years. When I first met Stan, I was not sure how we were going to get along as we were both stubborn. To keep it simple, I made him an ultimatum, "I will help you stay alive if you help yourself." We both agreed. Through several health issues and family tragedies, we became very close. When I called him, he would answer his phone, "Well, hello, darlin'." And when he would speak of me, he would say, "That's my girl!" Stan told me I kept him alive...I told him it was a team effort. For several years, I spoiled him by baking him full Thanksgiving dinners and delivering them to his home or giving him clothes, baking his favorite pies, banana bread, chicken alfredo, chili, anything I made at home, I shared with him. About 3 years ago I contacted an oral surgeon to see if he would be willing to pull a couple of Stan's bad teeth. On Jan 02,2016, I picked up Stan and took him to his dental consult not knowing that the surgeon was going to pull Stan' teeth that same day. When he checked out at the front office, Stan told the receptionist, "I don't have money to pay you." The receptionist replied, "That's okay. We received a nice email about you and you owe us nothing." Stan said, "That' my girl!" May you rest in God's forever loving hands, Stan. My life has been blessed because of you. Love, "your girl."
