Obituary for David Wayne "Double D" Douglas

David Wayne Douglas was called home on Friday, December 28, 2018 at the age of 56. Double D (David) entered life on January 28th, 1962 in Topeka, Kansas. He was the son of Ms. Barbara Douglas. David attended Clay Elementary, Roosevelt Junior High and graduated from Topeka High school in 1980. He was a lifetime resident.

He worked for 25 plus years with SRS, then later at Pathway Family Services as a Lead Youth Care Worker. He spent his entire life/career helping others. He was active in his church and involved in many other community groups. He was a graduate of the Topeka Citizen Police Academy, an accomplishment he was very proud of. He was also actively involved in Historical Old Town NIA, as Vice President. He was also a member of the Police Ambassador program.

David was a beckon of light for others and was always willing to lend a helping hand to everyone who needed it. He was willing to give without expecting anything in return. Double D was instrumental in saving the life of a police officer who was in a situation that required immediate action, without any consideration of his own safety. Double D immediately jumped into action and held the suspect until additional police officers arrived. For his heroic action David was awarded the, Commendation Coin Award by the Topeka Police Department.

“Real Talk” – David lived by this daily, the he way he treated others regardless if it was a homeless neighbor in need or speaking up for the voiceless to the Mayor. He was a role model for his nephews and for fellow Topekans.

On Saturday, October 19th, 2013 David married his soul mate and love of his life, Sarah Hesse. He was a phenomenal husband, priceless father and a true community leader.

David was preceded in death by his mother, Ms. Barbara Douglas, his son, David Douglas, Jr, his sister Tory Douglas-Tyler.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sarah Douglas, his daughter Amanda Douglas, and sons, Malcolm, Tate and Koby, his sisters Shirlon Harris (Warren), Kelly Spencer (Jessie) a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
