Obituary for Mattie Mae Johnson (Anderson)

Mattie Mae Anderson Johnson was born November 5th, 1928 in Okalona, Arkansas, the daughter of Laura Dixon Anderson and Robert Lee Anderson Mattie was the 9th child of 12 children.

She moved to Topeka in the late 40s where she met and married Eotis Johnson. To this union three sons were born.

Mattie worked for the Delta Gamma Sorority House at Washburn University for over 40 years as a cook. She later became an honorary member of the Delta Gamma Chapter.

She joined New Mount Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. J.R. Robinson. She sang in the Jubilee Mission Choir and served as an usher as well as working in the kitchen and working on the decoration committee.

Mattie loved knitting, crocheting but most of all she loved to cook. She was very famous for her cinnamon rolls and homemade bread.

Mattie was truly a people person and touched so many lives.

On December 12th, 2018, Mattie received her wings. She is preceded by her parents, her husband Eotis Johnson, her son Fred Johnson, 7 brothers and one sister. she is survived by her daughter, Wilma "Tootsie" Wheat, Topeka, Ks, two sons, Eotis Odell Johnson, Topeka, Ks and Richard Johnson of Kansas City, Mo. Her daughter in law, Brenda Johnson of Kansas City, Mo. Two sisters Roberta Anderson and Opal Rice, Topeka, Ks. One brother Raymond Anderson of Detroit, Mi. 4 Grandchildren, 4 Great-Grandchildren and 4 Great-great grandchildren. A host of nieces and nephews and relatives and friends. She also leaves to cherish her memory, her dear friend Kathleen Wilson.

Mattie was loved by many and will truly be missed.
