Obituary for Jerome Williams

Jerome “Pops” Williams, 77 passed away on July 13, 2018 following an extended illness. Mr. Williams was born in Demopolis, Alabama to Levin and Susie Williams on April 12, 1941. They family relocated to Warren, Ohio when Jerome was four years old. As a member of a military family, Mr. Williams traveled extensively as youth. He completed High School in Fort Knox Kentucky and went to Kentucky State University before answering the call to serve his country in the USAF in 1962.

Mr. Williams has been a resident of Topeka, Kansas since 1966, following a four yr. enlistment in the USAF. Mr. Williams worked for 25 years for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. He enjoyed life and wandered near and far for a good game of pinochle or dominoes. He entered pinochle competitions as far away as Las Vegas and as close as Kansas City. He was also an avid gardener, often supplying neighbors with vegetables. In addition to his recreational activities, Mr. Williams served on several boards and was Vice President for the County Civil Service Board for four years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an older brother, Enoch Chaney.

Left to cherish his memories are his two sisters: Deborea (Hubert Roy) Jones of Harrington, Delaware and Shirley Brady of Warren Ohio. Three daughters: Alyce Fleming of Houston, Tx. ; Susan (Rogers) Jones of Lenexa, Ks. and Shavonne Holmes(George) of Topeka, Ks. Three sons: Jerome (Laura)Williams of Winston Salem, NC; Julian L. Williams of Topeka, Ks.; 10 grandchildren; Sophia Lopez, Shanell Williams, Jordan Williams, Chelsea Williams, Natley Williams, Quentin Carlisle, Mariah Givens, Delorianne Williams, Sheldon Jones, Adrienne Jones and nine great grandchildren.

Also left to cherish his memory are his “heart son” Prentice P. Collins, his “brother” friend John Lane, a close dear friend Bolivia Thompson, and a host of family and friends.
