Ella Marion  Newman (Gatewood)
Ella M. (Gatewood) Newman passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2018. She was born August 14, 1931 in Topeka, KS to the parentage of Alberta and William Gatewood, both precede her in death. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Newman; her son, Leslie Newman II; brother Curtis (Curt) Gatewood and two sisters, Wilberta Patterson and Hazel Ferguson.

Ella worked at Topeka State Hospital for 30+ years as an LMHT and Supervisor.

She married Leslie Newman on September 20, 1949 in Topeka, KS and from this union three children were born Leslie II, Evonne and Eric.

She was a member of Asbury Mount Olive United Methodist Church for 86 years. She was active in United Methodist Women and worked with youth in the community. Her hobbies were buying shoes and reading.

Ella leaves behind to cherish her memory, daughter, Evonne (Jude) Akins; son, Eric (fiancée' Tamara Tucker, deceased) Newman; seven grandchildren, Christa Montgomery, Camron Turner, Kinsey Newman, Eric Newman, Jacob Newman, Amiriah Akins, and Ellis Newman; one great granddaughter, C'Aunna Turner; siblings, Robert Gatewood, Ann (Verner) Newman, Marie Bundridge, Nancy Dillard, Lynda (Larry) Johnson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
