Obituary for Larry Clinton Wynne

Mr. Larry “Pops” Wynne, son of the late Wency Wynne and Eloise Carlock, was born May 22, 1939 in Pittsburg, Texas. He attended Topeka Public Schools, graduating from Topeka High School in May of 1958 and attended Washburn University. He was a member at St. Mark AME Church.

Larry joined the Army October 28, 1958 and was honorably discharged on October 27, 1960. He then served in the U.S. Army Reserve for the next four years.

He was united in holy matrimony to Rosemary Downing on October 10, 1979.

Larry worked at the Menninger Foundation, YCAT where he retired after 28 years of service and was also a Bus Para for the Shawnee Heights School District No. 450.

He enjoyed bowling, fishing, playing pinochle and going to the Rice Community Center. He had a pleasant personality and was loved by many. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his brother Stanley Redmond, his Aunt Ada and Uncle Vessie Redmond who raised him after the death of his mother.

His life will forever be cherished in the lives of his children: Brian Wynne and Brock (Mary) Wynne, (Topeka, Ks), April Shields and Lauren (Shayla) Johnson (Kansas City, KS), Sondra (Christopher) Johnson-Nazario (Leavenworth, KS), Paul (Camilla) Johnson (Houston, TX); sister: Loice Mary Ann Grant (Pittsburg, TX); bonus children of his union with Rosemary Wynne: Carl (Marilyn) Downing Jr., Jada (John) Perkins Jr., Renee’ Downing, Arnold Downing Sr. all of Topeka KS, Gladys Downing (Wichita, KS); twenty grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren; foster brother, Clyde Smith (Topeka, KS); close cousin Donald Gregg of San Diego, CA; and a host of relatives and friends.
