Condolence: Dear Members of the Brown Family:

The Topeka Public School District extends our deepest condolences to your family. Your family has been a tower of strength whose early vision allowed young Linda Brown to wake up the heart of the nation and expose the injustice of segregation. A courageous spirit reflected in a 9 year old student reminds us all that transformation is possible and it is only when we look at life through the innocent eyes of a child can we truly see love that sees no barriers. The legacy of Linda Brown will forever live on in the hearts, minds and spirit of our students who will continue to learn about her work and the work your family continues to do to uplift the marginalized.

As the first black, female superintendent in Topeka finishing my second year, I was inspired by Mrs. Brown and the entire family. Mrs. Brown was the first person I met Sunday April 10th at St. Marks AME Church. As I listened to her play the piano at church, I was struck by her quiet, graceful disposition that could be immediately viewed. A humble spirit that quietly carried out the task she needed to do to serve the church and others she blessed as we listened to the music that filled the church. It allowed for me to see Christ reflected in her from the very first time I met her in 2016. Linda Brown continues to be a blessing to us all! Thank you for sharing Mrs. Brown with us, we are blessed and forever transformed by a woman who changed the nation. As a result of Linda Brown and your entire family, we now have diversity reflected in every aspect of the district with our student population and staff. If granted permission from the family, we would like to place a brick with her name on it at the walkway of the School Board building.

We celebrate the many accomplishments and memories of a peaceful, courageous warrior, Mrs. Linda Brown. Personally, I extend prayers to you as Mrs. Linda Brown transitions to everlasting life, may you be comforted as she begins her peaceful rest with God with the welcoming words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Condolence From: Karen Hiller
Condolence: I am Karen Hiller, the City Councilwoman who represents the district in Topeka that includes both Monroe and Sumner Elementary schools as well as the Chair of the small group Brown v. Board Sumner Legacy Trust which is working to save and revitalize Sumner and to activate and advance the legacy of Brown. I have known and deeply respected Linda, her mother Leola and sister Cheryl for many, many years.

What I'd like to do is share some parting words with Linda....

Thank you, Linda. You were a child when this all started. Gracefully, but not with any personal eagerness, you took the role of icon....from that day and for the rest of your life.

I join with legions to pledge that we will work until our dying days to strive to finish what your action, and those of the other parents, students, teachers and advocates, started.

Thank you, thank you. What you did changed the world.

Condolence: To The Family of Linda Brown-Thompson, I want to express my sincerest condolences to the entire family. Some of you I met while I pastored St. Mark AME, Topeka, others I only heard about. However you are all special to me. Linda was very supportive of my ministry at St. Mark AME (1992-1996). Because of her humility she was not one that had to be out front. However she was very inspirational and I enjoyed the times I would go to her home and sit off and talk with her and her hubby William (Buster). She was also a very vital part of the music ministry at St. Mark AME. In many ways she has been a trailblazer and a God-fearing Child of the Almighty, so faithful and dedicated. The whole Topeka community will not be the same without
Sister Linda, but I pray that you'll keep the legacy while she sojourn on earth alive ( I know Cheryl will). I thank you for affording me the opportunity to serve as member of the Brown Foundation. It was my intent to attend service but unfortunately the logistics for my travel from Bermuda to Topeka could not be arranged because of other obligations. But "Oh! I don't fear or fret, because in that Great Getting Up Morning sister Linda and I will meet again in that place were there is no segregation, were all God's children will walk hand in hand"...Family, I'm talking about Heaven.....sleep on Sister Linda but in that Great Getting Up Morning, we shall meet again.

Condolence: "... “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. 26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die." (John 11:25)

To the bereaved family and friends of Sis. Linda Carol Brown-Thompson: You have my sincere sympathy in the loss of your Loved One. During this time of grieving, may the Lord give you peace. May you take comfort in knowing that your Beloved is at rest, basking in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior. Know that, the Lord is forever present with you. He said He would never leave you nor forsake you. Be encouraged and cast your cares upon Him, for he cares for you. And as a Mother comforts a child, so will He comfort you! She fought a good fight, and she kept the faith, enduring life as a good soldier. The time has come for her to reap her reward! Although she has passed from this earthly realm, her spirit lives on; Now she resides in one of those mansions not made with human hands. So as you weep, don’t weep as though you have no hope, as to be absent in the body is to be present with the Lord! Therefore rejoice in your spirits for the ultimate victory that she has won! God bless you all. You are in my prayers and in the Hands of God!

Condolence: To the family of Linda C. Brown Thompson- I met Linda some years ago with a dear friend of minds whom Linda grew up with. (Marietta Dumas) Marietta told me great stories about Linda and her sister. Linda came to New Jersey to give a speech on her journey with case Brown vs. the Board of Education. I'll never forget the story she clearly explained about the case. May you find peace and comfort, knowing that she did her job. Because of her case Brown vs. the Board of Education, we are able to attend any school, college, restaurant, etc, we so desire. THANKS be to GOD and GLORY- Much love from New Jersey, where her friend Marietta Stinson Dumas lived, and since has made her transition. May God Bless.

Condolence: To the entire Brown family and (all entities), please accept our sincere condolences on the passing of your loved one. For Scooter it was a privilege to have Linda as a kindergarten classmate and to have Linda and her children many years later as our next-door neighbors. Ironically, it was on the same street called “Monroe” just two blocks away where the old Monroe School became an historical landmark in the archives of Topeka, Kansas. God had a destiny for Linda and the other plaintiffs of this city in the civil rights legacy, her resume is now complete. Scooter and I firmly believe that God has accepted her with open arms for all the good she has done while on this earth. May God bless the entire family and heal each of you as the burden in your heart abounds. Sincerely, Scooter and Mickey Warren
