Dorothy Lee Turner Mozingo was born on December 30, 1933 in Wewoka, Oklahoma to Gracie Ellison Turner and Bill Turner. She departed this life on Saturday, April 14, 2018. Dorothy graduated from Wewoka Douglas high school at 16 years old.  She graduated from Langston University with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Commerce on May 26, 1953 at 20 years old. After graduation Dorothy became a teacher.  She would often share stories about how she was responsible for a group of students that were just a few years younger than her and sometimes the male students would be quite smitten with her and ask if they could date. 

Dorothy retired after 30 years of service as a Deputy Branch Manager for the United States Treasury Department Disbursement Center in Kansas City, KS.   After retiring she served as the Church Clerk for First Baptist of Quindaro Church in Kansas City, KS.  She served faithfully in that capacity from 1990 until 2014.

She was married to and later divorced Robert Eugene Mozingo.  To this union two children were born. 
In her spare time Dorothy enjoyed reading, people watching, shoot em ups, spending time with family and learning about the Lord.  She was passionate about listening to music.  She loved the Blues, especially Bobby Blue Bland and Gospel.  She was an excellent cook and loved cooking for loved ones but she also loved to dine out and enjoy an ice-cold Pepsi and a great steak.

Dorothy had very strong beliefs and opinions and didn’t mind defending them.  Many hours were spent with her cousins Henryetta, Pinkie, Joyce and Cenola and whomever else was present pondering…well ummm…and sometimes arguing the state of everything under the sun.  They shared countless moments debating into the wee hours of the night laughing, crying, loving and fellowshipping like no others!

Dorothy leaves behind a host of family and friends to continue to celebrate her life and legacy.  Her eldest child Yolanda E. Mozingo preceded her in death.  Andre Mozingo (LaCreesha) Kansas City, KS; Sean Parks (Thea) Topeka, KS. Her grandchildren, Marlon Hayes, Dominic Hayes, Troy Mozingo, Khyron Mozingo, Michaela Anthony, Diamond Parks, RySean Parks, Aaliyah Parks and great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.  Additionally, left to mourn her loss are her cousins, nieces, nephews, Melissa Booker, Steve Thomas, Tim Edwards, Phyllis Gaines and a host of other cherished friends with whom she loved dearly and they loved her.
