Obituary for Marvin Lonnell "Coach Bailey" Bailey

Matthew 11:28 “Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” was fulfilled on February 19, 2018 for Marvin Lonnell Bailey. Born January 1,1951 in Kansas City, Kansas to the family of James Cornell and Johnnie Mae Peavy Bailey.

Marvin professed his faith in Christ at an early age and was baptized and united with Bethel Church of God In Christ in Kansas City, Kansas. He attended Kansas City, Kansas schools graduating from Sumner High in 1969. He played football at Washburn University and received his B.A. degree in recreation December 1973.

Marvin married Cynthia Phillips in 1975 and to this union one child was born, Marcus J.E. Bailey.

Marvin worked for the Boys and Girls Club for 27 years and was known to the children there as “Coach Bailey”. He also worked and retired from the State of Kansas as a juvenile corrections officer.

Marvin was a member of Omega Si Phi fraternity and the Blues Society Club. Coach Bailey loved working with and mentoring children all of his life. He loved talking with them and helping them whenever he could. He touched many young people's lives. Marvin loved sports especially football and basketball. He enjoyed all music and would regularly go to Uncle Bo’s to listen to the live bands.

Marvin was preceded in death by his father, James Cornell Bailey; mother Johnnie Mae Peevy Bailey; brother Elder James C. Bailey Jr.

Left to cherish his memory Cynthia Bailey (Topeka, KS); son, Marcus James Ennis (Candice) Bailey (Topeka, KS); grandson, Mar'Kai Bailey; brothers, Michael P. (Roselyn) Bailey (Kansas City, KS); sisters, Marianne E. (Terry) Wright (McDonough, GA), Sheila G. Bailey (Kansas City, KS), Michele R. Bailey (McDonough, GA); sister-in-law, Janet Bailey (Overland Park, KS) as well as a host of other family, friends and beloved youth.
