Obituary for Bettie Beverlyn Evans (Dangerfield)

Bettie Beverlyn Evans, 83, of Topeka, KS was born July 3, 1934 in Fort Townson, Oklahoma to Eddie and Alma Viola Dangerfield. Bettie spent her early childhood in Hugo, Oklahoma with her sister Martha M. Dangerfield. Early in life, Bettie was given the nickname “Billie” which she was mostly known by her friends and family.

Bettie accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at Greystone Heights Baptist Church of Kansas City, KS in 1947. She was a faithful member of Capitol City Community Church of God in Topeka, KS, where she was known for her delicious homemade rolls.

She received her early education in the Kansas City, Missouri school system. Bettie was united in marriage to James B. Evans on February 8, 1956. They had three children, Valerie, Vicky, and Troy. They were a military family and stationed in several U.S. cities and Guam over the years. Bettie was employed with the Kansas Turnpike Authority for over 20 years before she retired. She loved and cherished her family and especially enjoyed preparing dinners and luncheons for family and friends. Thanksgiving was her favorite holiday as she was able to have all of her family together. She always prepared an enormous feast, and enjoyed every minute of it. She always had requests for her famous “Fifty Dollar” cake. Her famous quote for the last 10 years or so was, “This is the last year that I’m doing this.” This past Thanksgiving was special to us all, because unfortunately it actually was her last.

Bettie was preceded in death by her father, Eddie Dangerfield; mother Alma Green Dangerfield; husband James B. Evans; sister Martha Dangerfield; and son-in-law Paul G. Jackson.

Bettie Beverlyn Evans leaves to mourn her homegoing, her daughters; Valerie K.(Freddie) Thomas (Wichita, KS), Vicky M. Jackson (Topeka, KS); son, Troy E. (Sheryl) Evans (Topeka, KS); grandchildren, Kia Jones, Robert (Tiawna) Jones, Brent Jones, Marcus (Denae) Jones, Nicole Thomas, Christopher (Monica) Glenn, Courtney (Shannon) Glenn, Rylee Schultze-Evans, Jaylynn Evans-Patterson; 19 great grandchildren; Tayvien, Victoria, Ty’Quarius, Tyron, Kei’juan, Raina, Kyron, Titus, DeElla, Robert Jr., Miles, Zoe, Vierre, Kiana, Malika, Christopher, Camron, Saniya, and Micah along with a host of other family members and friends.
