Obituary for Lonnie Craig "Big Boy" Floyd Sr.

Lonnie Craig Floyd, 65, was born to the late Kenneth Walter Floyd and Shirley Jean (Johnson) Floyd on June 29, 1952, in Osawatomie, Kansas. He was baptized at an early age in the Methodist Church located in Osawatomie, Kansas.

He graduated from Lawrence High School and later became a member of the United States Army as an SP4 officer. He served in the military from 1974-1979 which included a tour in South Korea. While in the service he was united in matrimony to Debra Young on November 22, 1976.

Lonnie was employed at Hercules Ammunition Plant in DeSoto, Kansas and Case Machine Factory, located in Kansas City, Missouri.

He was also a lifelong Lawrence resident, an avid fan of the Kansas Jayhawks men’s basketball team and the Kansas City Chiefs. He enjoyed watching sports and spending time with family and friends.

Lonnie departed this earthly life on Friday, October 13, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lyle Dane Floyd, and sister, Joanne Blocker.

He is survived by his sons, Lonnie (LaTasha) Craig Floyd Jr. and DeAndre (Yolanda) Kent both of Savannah, GA; sisters, Wynona Lee Floyd, Dorla Rachelle Floyd, Toni Shirita Floyd all of Lawrence, KS, Teri Kristine Dew (Topeka, KS) as well as grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
