Obituary for Shelley Jolana Wilder (Douglas)

At Christ Hospital in Topeka, Kansas on August 27, 1950, Shelley Jolana was born to Joe and Nathalia Douglas. She will be remembered for her athletic abilities as a softball player, city high jump champion and an avid enthusiast of most sports with an uncanny ability to recall the stats of many local and national players and teams.
Growing up she was a dedicated participant of youth programs in her church, Asbury-Mt. Olive United Methodist. Her love of music was true all her life as a listener, pianist and soloist, thus a member of choirs at Topeka High School and Kansas University. She was honored when she graduated from high school with an award for perfect attendance in Topeka Public Schools from kindergarten through graduation. She retired in 2012 after 37 years of loyal service as an employee of Westar Energy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Wayne Wilder, Sr. and her brother Trevor Joel Douglas. She is survived by her parents, Joe and Nathalia (Washington) Douglas; her daughter, Erin Wilder-Doomes (Dr. Edward Doomes); her son Larry Wayne Wilder, Jr.; three grandchildren, Evan, Elise, Elijah Doomes and a host of cousins, in-laws, friends and colleagues.
