Delano Cortez  Henderson Sr.
Delano Cortez Henderson was born the son of Alberta Maudie Henderson on October 12, 1932 in Salina, Kansas. He passed away on the early morning of Sunday, July 16th, 2017. Delano at a young age accepted Christ and was baptized.
He married Ella May Kathleen Henderson who preceded him in death. Born of their union were three children; Ellen Ray Henderson, Janet Henderson-Hall and Delano Cortez Howard Henderson, Jr. He spent his later years with Ocie D. Beatty who also preceded him in death.
Delano attended Washington High School in Salina, Kansas and graduated the only black student. After graduation, he enlisted in United States Air Force and served for 20 years. He later reenlisted with the Kansas Air National Guard at Forbes Field for ten years. Later he served as a campus policeman for Washburn University and security at the Kansas International Airport. In 2001, he retired and volunteered at the Dwight D. Eisenhower VA Medical Center Hospital in Leavenworth, Kansas.
Delano was a lifetime member of VFW Post #56. He was a Veteran of US Air Force and enjoyed sharing his stories and experiences. He loved spending time with his family and time at LULAC Senior Center. He always had an infectious laugh when watching his favorite shows. He also was an avid Kansas Jayhawk fan.
He was blessed to have two of his grandsons as his caregivers Adrian Revels and Brian Revels prior to his departure. He leaves to cherish his memory, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
