Obituary for Patsy Ann Young (Patterson)

Patsy Ann Young (Patterson)
Patsy Ann Young was born on May 17, 1950 to the late Harry and Ruth Mae Beaver Patterson in Paris Texas. She was called home during the early morning hours of May 29th, 2017 and joined her late husband, Bennie C. Young.

Patsy moved with her parents to Topeka at the age of four. She attended Lincoln Elementary and Parks Dale Elementary schools. Patsy later went on to East Topeka middle school and Topeka High School where she graduated in 1968. She married Bennie right after high school and they moved into their first home together. Soon after, they welcomed their first child in 1969 - a son, Joseph Allen, and later were blessed with two more sons, Craig and Kenneth “Kenny” as well as their only daughter, Christina.

Mrs. Young spent her professional life at Hill Heaven Nursing Home and stayed until the closing of the facility. She decided being a stay-at-home mom was something she enjoyed and was lead to start her childcare operation, Open Arms Daycare, with her longtime friend, Ruby Gaut. Together, they operated for 14 years. Later in life, she worked at Big Lots and Community Action Head Start, where she made lots of great friends along the way. She enjoyed kids and always knew how to get them to do exactly what she wanted. She had to retire from working when she fell ill in 2010, but she missed working dearly.

Patsy enjoyed drawing, scrapbooking, fishing and so much more. She loved her church community at First Church of God in Christ, where she spent her time growing her relationship with her Father and Savior Jesus Christ. She also loved spending time with family, friends and her grandkids. She always had a great ear for listening and would give advice if needed. She had a soul for love and truly touched the people she came in contact with. She was a very caring person with a heart of gold. She will be truly missed and loved by those who knew her well.

Mrs. Young is preceded in death by her father, Harry Patterson; mother, Ruth Mae Beaver Patterson; husband, Bennie C. Young; sister, Helen Patterson and sister-in-law, Beatrice Patterson.

Survivors of this angel are her daughter, Christina Young (Topeka, KS); sons, Joseph (Toni) Young (KC, KS), Craig (Julie) Young (Topeka, KS) and Kenneth “Kenny” (Heather) Young (Topeka, KS); brothers, Marshall (Ruthann) Patterson (Colorado Springs, CO), Floyd (late Beatrice) Patterson (Topeka, KS), Paul (Lisa) Patterson (Topeka, KS), Richard (Brenda) Patterson (Topeka, KS) and Geoffrey Patterson (Kansas City, KS); sisters, Mary (Steve) Winn (Topeka, KS) and Tamie Pollock (Manhattan, KS); grandchildren, Sydney Young (KC, KS), DaVante Young (Lawrence, KS), Maria Young (Lawrence, KS), Jahnazya “Nay-Nay” Young (Topeka, KS), Kenslee Young, Kenadee Young (Topeka, KS) and Kendrick Young (Topeka, KS) and her great-granddaughter, Isabella Creedon (KC, KS).
