Obituary for Bobby Thomas Lane

Bobby Thomas Lane
Bobby Thomas Lane was born in Topeka, Kansas on December 25, 1937 to the his parents, Charles Harold Lane, Sr. and Francis Helen "Peggy" Guy-Escabelle. Bobby was baptized in the catholic church at the age of seven. Mr. Lane attended Topeka Public schools until his enlistment in the United States Army at the age of 17. He maintained three years in the military until his honorable discharge.

In 1963, Mr. Lane relocated back to Topeka before eventually moving to cities of Monterey and Seaside, California. He later relocated to Los Angeles and lived with friends. The next year, he met the mother of his children, Sylvia Lane. Together, they became the proud parents of a son, John Charles Lane, born in 1968, and their daughter, Olivia Marie Lane, born in 1970. Later, Bobby relocated back to his roots in Topeka, Kansas and worked as a custodian in the 501 School District. Eventually, Mr. Lane became a member of Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Topeka.

Bobby enjoyed many things - one being bowling. He was recently inducted into the Kansas Bowling Hall of Fame. Along with the sport of bowling, Mr. Lane enjoyed all things KU. He enjoyed watching the KU basketball and football. Bobby also enjoyed cooking. Some family members recall his chili and spaghetti being second to none. Not only did he enjoy cooking, he enjoyed eating. Quite fond of the Mexican cuisine, Bobby delighted in the burritos his children's mother prepared for him. While living in California, he'd make his trips to Topeka and Oklahoma, but never without his burritos.

Bobby was a man who touched a lot of people and held fond memories with those whom he loved. Family couldn't be more important to him. His children and grandchildren meant the world to him, as did his many brothers and sisters and extended family. He always made a way for his children to spend time with Vallie "Nanny" Lane, Aunt Sadie Lane, Aunt Linda Lane and Uncle Virgil. John and Olivia felt it their highlight whenever they got to spend time with their aunts and uncles. In the end, family was his life, and his family adorned him. After he moved back to Kansas, he still remained in close connection with his children's mother, Sylvia Lane. They considered themselves forever soulmates. Mr. Lane lived the saying, "Life is like a box of chocolates."

Bobby was preceded in death by father, Charles harold lane, Sr.; his mother, Francis "Peggy" Guy-Escabelle; his son, John Charles Lane; brother, Charles lane, Jr. and his sister, Charlotte Lane.
