Obituary for Carolyn Ann Hunt (Jones)

Carolyn Ann Hunt (Jones)
Mrs. Carolyn Ann Hunt, 78, of Topeka, Kansas, ascended to Heaven on Sunday, March 26, 2017, surrounded by her adorned family.

Carolyn was born on November 20, 1938, to the union of Kacey and Mamie Jones. Carolyn was a twin from a small town, Duquoin, Illinois - a place where everyone knew one another. Carolyn married Karl Simmons and to this union, their family grew to four children. She later moved to St. Louis, Missouri and had two more children - completing her family of six children. Carolyn would later move to Kansas City, Missouri with her family. She became the primary custodial guardian of her three grandchildren, Nichole Shauntel Jones, Rodney Eugene Simmons and Michelle Ann Simmons, who she raised as her own. Carolyn was a member at The Church of God for over 40 years and raised her three grandchildren in this church. She would later move to Topeka, Kansas where she would meet her husband, Victor White, whom she shared the last 20 years of her life.

Carolyn was a foster grandmother for about 11 years. She was a caregiver for many years helping families keep their loved ones at home. She had a very caring heart, always putting others happiness ahead of her own. After her cancer diagnosis, she continued working through her battle. Carolyn always said she loved her job, her friends, her foster kids and she needed to be with them until she could no more. Carolyn fought a long and hard fight with cancer. She was brave, beautiful, smart and a blessing to anyone that knew her. Her famous words, "Anything past 75 years is a blessing from God. He's giving you time to get everything in order. Once you're done, you'll know when it's time."

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Victor White (Topeka, KS); sons, Winford Simmons (Topeka, KS), Charles Simmons (Topeka, KS); daughters, Rhonda Malone (Topeka, KS), Mamie (Karl Brown) Simmons (Topeka, KS); the grandchildren she raised, Nichole Jones (Raytown, MO) and Rodney (Cori) Simmons (Missouri); 16 grandchildren and nearly 30 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Karl Simmons; son, Wendell Nance; daughter, Valerie Haney; brothers, Ferrell Jones, Lawrence Jones, Lloyd Jones and Raymond Jones and her sisters, Gladys Webb, Arlitta Jones, Marvella Woody and Gracey Riddick.
