Mrs. Ruth Josephine Kirsch Redick Johnson, was born April 22, 1931, in Emporia, KS. She was the forth child born to Thomas Gerald Redick and Helen (Murray) Redick, who are both deceased. Ruth had seven siblings, preceding her in death, Robert, Ernest (Hoker), Alvin (Dicky)Glenn,Thomas Lawrence, Irene and Betty.

She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She attended Emporia public schools including trade school for x-ray technology and cosmetology in Topeka.

She moved to Topeka at age 20 where she met and married her husband of 53 years, the late Vernon Louis Johnson Sr., on July 2, 1952. To this union eight children were born, three preceded her in death at birth or shortly after.

She became a member of Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in 1977, where she sung in the choir, was member of the Mission Circle and served as an usher.

She loved old gospel music, read, cook homemade Indian bread, sugar cookies, chocolate cake and apple pie. On New Year's Day, she would cook a big pot of back eyed peas, collard greens and fried cornbread. She loved her diamond jewelry and the color red.

She leaves to cherish in her memory her children, Ronald Johnson (Wanda), Maricopa, AZ;
Vernon (aka Michael) Johnson, Jr.; Cynthia Bradley (Howard); Kevin Johnson (Susan); Damita Hamilton (George) and Daniel Johnson all of Topeka; brother James J. Redick, Cottonwood Falls, KS. 20+ grandchildren, 30+ great-grandchildren and 10+ great-great grandchildren. She has a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends..
