Obituary for Esther Mae Quarles (Hyman)

Esther Mae Quarles, 94, passed peacefully into eternal rest on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at her home in Topeka. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Pearl and Edna Mae (Saunders) Hyman; and siblings Russell, Charles, Ruth, Edith, and Mildred, and by her loving husband of 29 years, Robert Thomas Quarles.

Esther was born in Valley Falls, Kansas, October 27, 1922. She graduated from Valley Falls High School and began a career in domestic maintenance, working as a housekeeper for over 30 years. She enjoyed dancing, singing, cooking, playing cards and dominos. She was an active member of the Mount Carmel Baptist Church and choir.

Esther was fondly loved and will be missed by her step-son Stanley Quarles, Auburn; niece Velma Miller, Topeka; great niece Esther and daughter Velisha Carter, Topeka; great nephew David Miller and children Tava and Dane and their children, Topeka; great nephew Duane Miller, Topeka; niece Connie Robinson, Omaha, Nebraska; niece Rosette Collins, Decatur, Illinois; niece Mary Lou Kelso, Olathe, Kansas; nephew Jerry Lee, Topeka; cousin James Saunders, Jamaica, New York; cousin Donald (Linda) Perkins, Topeka; cousin Suzette Saunders, Atlanta, Georgia; cousin Stella Bean, Topeka, and many other loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
