Obituary for Arthur William Anderson Jr.

Our beloved Deacon Arthur W. Anderson Jr. was born on April 24, 1937 in Mayetta, KS to Arthur William Anderson Sr. and Ollie Robinson Anderson. He was called home to be with his heavenly Father On October 6, 2016.
Arthur graduated from Mayetta High School in 1956; he set up residency in Topeka, KS. In January of 1958 he joined the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ. He gave his life to the Lord and was baptized in February of 1958.

It was at the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ where he met his angel, Velma Collins; they married that same year on September 6, 1958. To this blessed union, God gifted them with four children to nurture with the love of God as the priority of their lives.
Arthur is survived by his wife, Velma, and his children, Douglas Anderson Sr. (Jacque) Topeka, Marcus Anderson (Deborah), Newburgh, IN, Mychael Anderson (Renee), Topeka, and Raquel Jackson (Norman), Topeka. Deacon and Sister Anderson had four birth children; however, they also loved and nurtured an honorary son Randy Bryant, Minneapolis, MN and daughter Mary Lee-Marchant, Orlando, FL as their own. Additionally, they have been “Dad and Mom” to a host of other children from the Topeka area.

He is survived by 14 grandchildren, 11 Great grand children and a host of nieces and nephews.
Arthur was preceded in death by his parents Arthur W. Anderson Sr. and Ollie Anderson, along with five siblings; Two brothers, William Anderson (surviving wife Charlene), Ralph Anderson, (surviving wife JoAnn) Three sisters; Marguerite Chapman (Wilber), Josephine Curls (Leroy), Ollie Bell Chapman (Charles).

Arthur retired from Good Year Tire and Rubber Company after 31 years of service. He made lifelong friends during his time at Goodyear, and touched many lives. He was known as Andy, to his friends and co-workers. He will always be remembered for his compassionate spirit and his love of the Lord.

Deacon Arthur Anderson has been a strong pillar in the church for many years. He obtained the title of “Deacon” upon his appointment by The Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ. This was an honor that he accepted with unequivocal devotion. He served on the deacon board, the board of trustees, Treasurer, Sunday school teacher, transportation, music ministry and men’s ministry to name a few.
Deacon Anderson was a member of the Optimist Club. He spent years coaching and mentoring young men in basketball. He was a Boy Scout Leader; he was a member of the booster Club at Topeka High School. He loved sports and followed his children and grandchildren‘s activities throughout their lives. He covered it all from little league through college. You would find him encouraging and supporting at every football, basketball, and baseball game, track meets, dance team performances, plays, musicals and debates. He loved and treated his wife like a queen. He was an extremely devoted man.

As we reflect on his life, we know that Deacon Anderson was a spiritual inspiration to everyone that was blessed with his acquaintance. He was especially a motivating force in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He demonstrated the quality and character of a Godly man. He instilled the virtues of trustworthiness, kindness, unselfishness, hard work and above all a devotion to God. These attributes are the foundation of his legacy that will flourish for generations.

The measure of a great man is not all told while he is yet among us, but when his space in time is no longer occupied by a physical presence, the sense of our appreciation and the degree of his worth is magnified in our eyes. Deacon Arthur Anderson may your kind and gentle spirit rest in peace. You have earned your crown and will now dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
