Obituary for Vannie Mae Tacy (Hullum)

Vannie Mae Hullum (Walker) Tacy was born on January 27, 1940 in Little Rock, Arkansas the daughter of Van Isaiah Hullum and Cora Lee Glenn Hullum.
Vannie was a loving and caring person and was the matriarch of the family. She loved to cook and travel. Her dream trip was to go to Hawaii and she achieved that in fife. Vannie knew no strangers and was very giving.
Vannie knew at an early age she wanted to care for people. She became a nurse's aide and then put herself through nursing school in 1977 while raising eight children. She worked 16 years as a nurse at Trinity Luthern Manor and six years at Country House. While working at Country House she had the opportunity and pleasure to teach CMA's and CNA's. Vannie continued her education in nursing at Johnson County Community College and Kansas City Kansas Community College throughout her 22 years of her nursing career. She retired in 1999.
Vannie passed away on May 19, 2016. She is preceded in death by her parents, Van Isaiah Hullum and Cora Lee Glenn Hullum; brothers, John Lee Hullum and Henry Hullum; sister, Inell Sowell; grandchildren, Michael "Boo" Walker, Jr., Michael David Hullum, Gregory Brown Jr., DelJuan Patton and Eric D. Hullum.
Vannie was deeply loved by her children who will continue to cherish her memory. She is survived by her sons, Calvin E. Hullum (Pamela) of Kansas City, Kansas, Christopher G. Walker of Kansas City, Missouri, Merle E. Walker (Cynthia) of Kansas City, Kansas and Michael A. Walker (Eloise) of North Kansas City, Missouri; daughters, Thelma L. Marks (Harry) and Sharon K. Walker both of Topeka, Kansas, Teresa Ann Brown (Gregory) of Kansas City, Missouri and Hazel M. Walker-McClinton and her fiancee' Steven Christian of Topeka, Kansas; 26 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 17 great great grandchildren; brothers Chet Hullum (Laura) of Independence, Missouri and Sylvester Hullum (Vera) of Sacramento, California; sister, Cynthia Nelson of Orlando, Florida and other relatives and friends who loved her and was affected by her contagious SMILE.
