Glenn M. Downing, age 55, died of health complications on March 6, 2016.

Glenn was born on August 22, 1960 in Atchison, Kansas to parents Glenn M. Birch and Mildred A (Downing). He graduated from Atchison High School in 1979 and furthered his education at Benedictine College on a football scholarship. Glenn attended NEKA Vocational Technical School of Atchison, KS, obtaining credentials in welding and AutoCAD, proceeded into a career holding several positions where he utilized his skills.

Glenn was a great husband, loving father and loyal family-man. He married Dawn Finney on August 31, 2014 in Atchison, Kansas. Their marriage was anchored in Christ faithfully worshipping together. Glenn was elevated to Deaconship at The New Beginnings Baptist Church (Topeka, Kansas) based on his willingness to serve others. The couple has seven pit bulls, who were their children, aside from his beautiful daughter, Jamie Lee. One of his pit bulls succeeded him in death and will rest with him in eternity.

Glenn was deeply involved in many competitive sports and family activities; he refused to lose and always accepted a challenge. His family and friends will always remember him as a loving, kind-hearted big brother/father figure to his siblings. "Glenny" was always willing to barbeque and help wherever needed. He was truly an angel sent from God.

He is preceded in death by his father, Glenn M. Birch and sister Dorothy L. Birch, both of Atchison, KS; his maternal grandparents and a host of other family members.

Glenn M. Downing is survived by his wife, Dawn Finney-Downing of Atchison, KS; his mother Mildred (Tootie) Birch, also of Atchison, KS; his daughter Jamie L. Birch of Omaha, NE and sisters Vicki M. Birch of Atlanta, GA, Carla J. Birch-Vaughn (Jake) of Denver, CO, Sharon R. Birch-Tidwell of Sacramento, CA and Michelle L. Carey-Birch of Atchison, KS; brother Gary M. Birch (Jenny) of Oklahoma City, Ok, Dale W. Birch of Atchison, KS and Adam C. Birch (Tracy) of Emporia, KS; Host of nieces; his father in-law, David Finney Jr. of Omaha, NE and his mother-in-law, Jerry Finney of Topeka, KS.
