Obituary for Cheryl Lynn Fields

Cheryl Lynn Fields, 48 of Topeka, is resting in peace with her Creator. She passed away unexpectedly on June 10, 2015 at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas. She was born on February 21, 1967 – the daughter of Carliese Keeling Bass and Clardy B. Vinson.

Cheryl attended elementary school in Kansas City, Kansas. She finished middle school in Topeka and graduated from Topeka High in 1985 and was selected the USD 501 Business Student of the year.

Cheryl’s post-secondary education was completed at Allen county Community College, Washburn University and Wichita State University. She continued her education at Emporia State University to earn a bachelor of General Studies Degree in 1996. She received her Masters in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix in 2002. She was not done yet. Cheryl completed her candidacy for her doctoral degree/PH.D (ABD) for Human Resources Management with Capella University, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Cheryl held several positions in the employment field. She desired to stay busy. Whether cleaning up a building or serving in an executive position, she just wanted to work and be happy.

A partial list of her employment from 1987 to the present includes the following: Frito-Lay (Topeka, KS.); BCBSKS (Wichita, KS.); Iowa Beef Processors, Inc. (Emporia, KS.); Newman Memorial County Hospital, Human Resources (Emporia, KS.); Johnson County Community College, Adjunct Professor (Overland Park, KS.); Kansas Human Rights Commission and State of Kansas-EEO, Intake Manager (Kansas); Sam’s Club/Wal-Mart, Inc., Human Resources Manager for Alaska & lower states; Lowes, Human Resources Manager (Kenosha, WI.).

Cheryl’s achievements include promoting a gospel benefit in KC, MO.; promoting a “Blood & Sweat Fight Night” at Sport City in Blue Springs, MO.; owning an online soul food catering website called “Granny’s”; licensed professional truck driver through Stroud Truck Driving School; Who’s Who Among Professional Minority Women (New Jersey Edition); professional Speaker and Minister of Faith.

Her professional affiliations include the African American Human Resources Executives; Diversity Officer Magazine; Domestic Violence GED/Job Preparedness; NAACP, National Organization of Women; Society for Human Resources Management; Parent Advisory National Committee (Seattle, WA.); National Organization for Rare Diseases.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her daughter, Brittany Michelle Dinkens in 1996; grandparents, Katherine “Granny” Landis, Carl “Poppi” Fields and Melvin Vinson; Aunts Marcella Matlock, Patty Keeling and Maxine Robinson; Uncles Kenneth Keeling, Jr., Leroy Keeling and William Cunningham.

Survivors include her mother, Carliese Keeling Bass (Richard), Father, Clardy Vinson (Paula), Brothers Richard “Tony” Bass and Rahn Bass (JoAnne) both of Texas; Craig Vinson, Bentonville, Arkansas and Chris Vinson (Lydia) of Austin, Texas; Aunt, Joyce Keeling; Uncles Carl Keeling, Jr and Rodney Keeling (Sharon) and Luvene Matlock, all of Topeka and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
